I realized I have an interest in 'street' photography. This is another attempt. My embarrassment holds me back, or is it shyness, but this is the direction I feel most interested in at present.

Noseum, I like this but you are right street is a hard thing to master. I've gotten over my shyness somewhat although I occasionally chicken out on shots I know I should take. Keep trying it gets (slightly) easier. The more photos you take the more you "see". There are photo ops I "see" now that two years ago I would have passed without a second thought. Best thing to do is read everything you can that deals with street on forums and websites, look at other peoples street photos and absorb what information you can from them and of course keep shooting. :)
All the best, Rob

I like this site for street photography. As a female your photo taking will probably be perceived as less threatening than photo taking by a man so use that to your advantage. For instance, if I take a photo of a woman, or a man, my motives can be immediately "suspect" with that hint of sexual undertone (if I take a photo of a woman I must be a "pervert" and if I take a photo of a man I must be "gay"), whereas a woman taking pictures is usually perceived as being more "legitimate" or benign. I don't let these misperceptions stop me from taking photos, but I do find it advantageous to have my wife with me when I'm taking photos of strangers.

@Twelvebit: Thank You so much for the link.. if looks like it will be an educational one. Tx again for your interest.. True for what your saying about gender, but it's my 'shyness' that keeps me from shooting.. Must learn to get over that.. Again thanks .
